Christopher Allen Lloyd, an American actor, was born on October 22, 1938. He has appeared on stage, in films, and on television a lot since the 1960s.

His most well-known performances were as Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy and Jim Ignatowski in the comedy series Taxi (1978–1983), for which he won two Emmy Awards (1985–1990).

In Northeastern theatre productions in the 1960s and early 1970s, Lloyd initially attracted wide attention and was recognized for his performances with Drama Desk and Obie awards.

His screen debut was in 1975 with One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, while his television debut came the following year with The Adams Chronicles. He also played Commander Kruge in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984).

On June 6, 1959, Lloyd wed Catharine Dallas Dixon Boyd. They split up in 1971. In 1974, he wed the actress Kay Tornborg; they divorced in about 1987. In July 1991, Lloyd’s third marriage to Carol Ann Vanek, which had lasted more than two years, was about to end.

From 1992 through 2005, he was married to screenwriter Jane Walker Wood, who was also his fourth wife. He wed Lisa Loiacono in 2016, who represented Lloyd when he sold his Montecito, California, home in 2012. The Tea Fire of November 2008 completely destroyed his prior home on the land.
