Asa Hutchinson is an American politician and lawyer who currently serves as the Governor of the state of Arkansas. He was born on December 3, 1950, in Bentonville, Arkansas, and grew up on a farm near Gravette, Arkansas.
Hutchinson began his political career in 1985 when he was elected to the United States House of Representatives, representing Arkansas’s 3rd congressional district. He served in Congress until 2001, when he was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as the Director of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
In 2005, Hutchinson returned to Arkansas and ran for governor but was defeated in the Republican primary.
